399. Kawau's eyes
We commonly say "u no me taka no me" (cormorant's eye hawk's eye)*.
As the great cormorant is a common species around here, I took a shot aiming at its eyes.
To my surprise, its eye color is green.
As the color might be affected by the reflection of water surface. I serched online. It confirms that the color of kawau's eye is emerald-green.
Siran-katta (I did not know at all / Kansai word).
*This saying refers to, of course, their sharp eyes to find out their preys. However, if it is used for human, it means a look trying to find out such faults of other person as the drawbacks, weaknesses, etc.

398. Katori shrine / Cherry blossom
Came across Katori-san, upon seeing cherry blossoms here and there.
This shows the blossoms in front of the main gate, yesterday Mar. 23.
The appearance of the worship hall has become considerably calm.
Until very recently, it had looked shiny after its refurbishment, and I got a feeling of uneasiness.
For a venerable shrine like Katori-san, I just tend to expect the atmosphere "kamu-sabita" (deity awe-inspiring).

397. Cherry blossom
Cherry has started blossoming in this area too.
The photo taken this afternoon is sidare-zakura (cherry tree with drooping branches) in front of a sake brewer at Sisui*.
This brewer is well known for its sake brand, Kinoe-ne Masamune.
*This town name "Sisui" literally means "sake and sake well".

396. Anzu (apricot)
Took this photo as I notced the flowers of anzu at my place.
Every year, I cut out the branches to the limt and there are years with no blossom at all.

395. Tugumi
For a week or so, two tugumi are around in a square in front of my place.
They feed themselve by incessantly pecking at the ground without paying much attention to the surroundings.
As it is about the time for them to return to Siberia, they probably give priority to gaining stamina.

394. Kobusi
Now mokuren-like (a kind of magnolia) flowers are seen here and there.
The shot is the one I took at a nearby hill this afternoon.
It is always hard to decide if this is mokuren or kobusi.
It is said that mokuren's flower stands upward, with 9 petals, while that of kobusi, upward and sideway too, 6 petals. Thus this must be kobusi.
It also says that different from mokuren, kobusi is native to Japan, and its scientific name is "magnolia kobus".

393. P3C
As the airspace of low altitude around this area is a training zone of Navy's Shimousa base, this type can be seen almost everyday.
This is a shot taken at the road-station Yatiyo this afternoon.

392. Suzu-kake
At one of the squares where I walk with Jiro, at this time of year, many suzu-kake are scattered.
They are so stout that they hardly break even if I accidentally tread on them.
The photo is for those I brought back. To be accurate, this is a species called here, momiji-ba-fuu.
The surface is full of holes as in the photo. And the right indicates the cross section after being forcibly cut out by a knife.
It looks, in short, that
contrary to the dandelion or the like, the seeds sit on the outside and the flying feathers are kept inside,
and that
the holes appear after the seeds fly away.

391. Wingtips of tobi (kite)
At this time of year, kites circle in the air around the nearby entracne of a bicle path along the Shin river. Good thermal seems to be there. Today too, a kite was circling as in this photo.
They all circle with their wingtips spread wide open like we spread our fingers. This one flew overhead and made a great circle, as if it says, Try and Do this!

390. DC 750 V drive
This is a train running around this area.
Although, at this camera angle, it looks as if it were a spring-dirven toy, it is a real train. In the morning and evening, many people use this train.
Contrary to the ordinary DC 1500 V, this train runs by the half voltage, DC 750 V.
